Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones said he is "grateful" and "thankful" to be alive and with the team following his offseason arrest at a Los Angeles apartment complex.
"I'm grateful," the wide receiver said Sunday, per Chris Brown of the team's website. "I could've lost my life, so I'm grateful to just be here—to be on the field and to be with my teammates and to see my family. I don't think there's another word to describe it but grateful and thankful."
In March, TMZ Sports published video of Jones running around nude and scuffling with his brother, Cayleb, in the apartment complex. In the video, Jones can be heard yelling, "I'm going to fight for Jesus."
According to TMZ, Cayleb also had to restrain Zay from trying to jump through a window on the 30th floor. (Warning: Video contains profanity and graphic images.)
Jones was arrested and charged with felony vandalism, though the charge was later dropped.
"I think I would be doing myself a very big disservice if I went back to there," Jones said when asked to discuss the circumstances of the arrest, via the team's website. "That moment was very traumatic for me and my family. And to rehash that now at this point in time wouldn't be doing me any good. I know you have a job to do, so I'm not trying to...I'm just trying to look forward. That's where I'm at right now. A lot of positive things are happening in my life, and I'm very grateful for it."
A 2017 second-round pick, Jones finished his rookie season with 27 receptions for 316 yards and two touchdowns.
