TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Reports of the sexual harassment experienced by a female patient at National Hospital in Surabaya is worrying. Considering that it was done by a male nurse at the hospital and happened in a post-surgery recovery room when the patient was suspected to still be under the influence of anesthesia.
Clinical psychologist Dra. A. Kasandra Putranto, Psi said that cases of sexual harassment can happen anywhere and done by anyone.

“Principally, in handling mental health (such as in psychotherapy) there is a code of ethics that requires medical health workers to recommend the patient to be accompanied [by a family member] except in a surgery room,” said Kasandra.
So, what are the characteristics of a sexual predator?
1. Firstly, Kasandra explained that there is a certain trait that reflects a sexual predator’s characteristics, such as the preoccupation. The mind of the perpetrator is preoccupied for a long time towards a single focus, which in this case are ideas regarding sexual intentions.
2. The second thing is sexual predators will pick a victim that least suspects about their vicious intent.
3. Lastly, sexual predators would often go after a victim by being indulgent, affectionate, show good manners, and build an emotional attachment which tends to turn into an emotional dependence.
Therefore, Kasandra always reminds us to avoid the habit of making ourselves in the position where we are the least alert of our surroundings to avoid being a victim of sexual harassment.
