Aydin Breland, one of the top players in the 2024 recruiting class, committed to play college football at Oregon on Saturday.
According to Greg Biggins of 247Sports, Breland announced his commitment to Oregon, choosing the Ducks over Georgia and Miami.
Per 247Sports, Breland is a 5-star recruit who ranks as the No. 11 overall player, No. 4 defensive lineman and No. 1 player from the state of California in the 2024 class.
Breland is a 6'5", 290-pound defensive lineman who stars at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, meaning Oregon was the closest school geographically of his three finalists.
According to Biggins, Breland noted that his relationship with Oregon's coaching staff was the driving force behind his decision, though, saying:
"There were a lot of things I liked about Oregon. I said my decision would come down to development, relationships and playing time and Oregon offers all of that for me.
"I love the staff and have a really good relationship with not just one or two of the coaches but most of the coaches on the staff. They have been recruiting me for a long time, even though it's still a new staff and I have a really strong comfort level there."
While Breland settled on Oregon in the end, a source told Biggins that the defensive lineman was "still going back and forth" on his decision as of Friday night.
Biggins reported that Oregon was the first school to make Breland a scholarship offer back when he was in eighth grade, but it was ironically current Miami head coach Mario Cristobal who made the offer while he was the head coach at Oregon.
Breland said Cristobal was a "big reason" why he liked Miami, but he still decided to stick with the first school that pursued him.
In Oregon, Breland is set to join a program that has consistently been among the best in the nation in recent years.
Entering the 2023 season, Oregon had won at least 10 games in three consecutive full seasons when taking the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign out of the equation.
In his first year at the helm, head coach Dan Lanning led the Ducks to a 10-3 record and. Holiday Bowl win last season, and Oregon is perhaps trending toward an even better result in 2023.
Entering play Saturday, the Ducks were a perfect 5-0 and ranked No. 8 in the nation. They will put their undefeated record on the line Saturday against the 5-0 No. 7 Washington Huskies.
