70-year-old arrested in fatal shooting of Lawrenceville man

Gwinnett County police have charged a 70-year-old in the death of a Lawrenceville man who was gunned down Thursday afternoon near an elementary school.

Stanley Elliot was taken into custody at his home Friday after investigators received information linking him to the fatal shooting, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Collin Flynn said. The arrest came hours after detectives released surveillance video of Elliot walking through a yard Thursday afternoon and identified him as a “person of interest” in the death of 44-year-old Anthony Collins.

Collins was found dead outside a car near McKendree Elementary School along Riverside Parkway shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. Investigators told Channel 2 Action News that Collins was walking his dog when he was killed.

“The motive for this murder is still unknown,” Flynn said Saturday.

Elliot is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, online records show. He is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
