A piece of news was circulating over news channels and social media that caught everyone’s attention that a hippo swallowed a 2-year-old kid. However, it was later confirmed that the 2-year-old boy in Uganda survived the hippo attack that almost got him swallowed.
On December 4, a boy named Iga Paul, confirmed by the authorities, was playing nearby his home, and suddenly a hippo attacked the boy.
The hippo swallowed half of the two-year boy’s body but later spitted him out.
According to sources, a man frequently threw stones at the hippo so that it could let go of the child, and fortunately, it did.
The police further described the statement, “It took the bravery of one Chrispas Bagonza, who was nearby, to save the victim after he stoned the hippo and scared it, causing it to release the victim from its mouth.”
When the boy was spitted out of the hippo’s mouth, he was rushed to a nearby clinic as he endured some injuries on his hand. Later, the boy was escorted for further treatment to Bwera Hospital.
The police confirmed that the boy recovered and took a vaccine for rabies before getting discharged.
The police said that this was the first time a case like this ever came across where a hippo tried to swallow a 2-year-old kid.
The local authorities reported that the boy lives about 800 meters from the lake, where the Wildlife Conservation Society estimated 6,000 hippopotami still roam.
The residents were scared after the incident that took place in their neighborhood. The police said that the hippo was sent back to the lake when they scared him. The police said that residents near the lake should be cautious about the wild animals.
The police said, “Instinctually, wild animals see humans as a threat and any interaction can cause them to act strangely or aggressively.”
As the incident occurred recently, people are vigilant and keeping a closer look at the nearby places where the hippo could invade again.
