It's been quite the calendar year for United States women's national soccer team star Abby Wambach.

Between playing in her first club season in the National Women's Soccer League for the Western New York Flash, seeing her ESPN film, Abby Head On, premier in May and setting the new international goal-scoring record for the U.S., her accomplishments have been far and wide in 2013.

Even so, her best memory from 2013 will likely be from the first weekend in October.

As reported by TMZ, Wambach and longtime girlfriend Sarah Huffman tied the knot over the weekend in Hawaii. The two Flash teammates have known each other for quite some time, and were also teammates with the Washington Freedom, MagicJack and USWNT.

Now, they will be partners on both the pitch and in life.

Wambach went to Twitter on Wednesday to thank fans for their love and support:

Huffman also tweeted out a show of gratitude to her followers and best wishes to two of her best friends who didn't make the trip to the island state:

The wedding was held at the Villas at Po’ipu Kai on the island of Kauai on Oct. 5, and according to the TMZ report it was an intimate affair attended by only close friends and family members of the happy couple.

However, several USWNT stars were in attendance, including noted standouts Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan. Leroux posted this photo on Instagram to commemorate the special day:

Though she has long been a supporter of LGBT rights, Wambach had never officially spoken out about her own sexual orientation before. Her marriage and tweet are statements enough, though, and she joins Huffman, who had already come out in a July piece for Athlete Ally

The 33-year-old Wambach and the USWNT have three matches on the docket for October, including a showdown in San Antonio, Texas, with Australia and two matches with New Zealand in San Francisco, Calif., and Columbus, Ohio.

For now, though, Wambach and Huffman are thinking very little about soccer and a lot about the rest of their lives together.

And that's exactly how it should be after such an important moment in both of their lives.
