Born September 25, 1996, Alexis Starr Hicks’ life did not come to an end with her death. She passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at age 25, but she is survived by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Alexis has many family and friends that she has touched in her short, yet very memorable life.
Alexis graduated from Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. After graduation, she was a student at Norfolk State University, working towards her degree in Communications. Alexis earned her place on the Dean’s List three times to her and her family’s delight! Alexis had dreams of becoming a screenwriter. She loved music, but she loved writing even more.
The first thing people noticed about Alexis was her tiny voice, however, they would quickly learn that she had a huge personality and exceptional sense of humor. Alexis’ life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile and sweet voice brought so much joy to her family. Alexis will be lovingly remembered as her father’s “Lil Gal” and her mother’s Shining Starr.
Alexis is survived by her loving parents, Jason Lamont Hicks and Sebrina (Calvin) Edwards of Chesapeake, VA; stepmother Kayla Alexis Hicks of Newport News, VA; brothers Andrew Lamont Hicks of Lexington Park, MD and Trent Pearson Eley of Norfolk, VA; stepbrothers Kiman Edwards of Chesapeake, VA, Toine R. Stewart Jr. of Laurel, MD, and David Tyson IV of Portsmouth, VA; stepsister Kimberly Annamarie Tyson of Virginia Beach, VA; and niece Gwendolyn Hope Hicks of Lexington Park, MD. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Godwin Alphonso Hicks and Moease Belfield-Hicks. Our beloved Alexis will be missed by her grandparents, Ledrew Green Jr. and Gloria Gross-Green, and a host of aunts & cousins.
