He originated from Dublin, Georgia. The grandparents who reared the wrestling-trained fighter always had his back. 

In September 2021, he told his supporters that he “had never been so afraid” about anything before and pleaded for their prayers. Anthony Johnson’s manager broke the news of the fighter’s passing on Sunday.

According to recent reports, when he passed away from organ failure, the UFC fighter was battling non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s patients now have a better chance of survival than they had decades ago. 

The overall 5-year survival rate for patients in the United States is 73% due to advancements in treatment. Anthony Johnson passed away as a result of his sickness, sadly.

In September of 2021, Anthony Johnson had to pull out of the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix because of an unexplained ailment. An emotional post gave his fans the sense that his problems were serious, but no one knew their full extent.

Anthony finished his MMA career with a 23-6 record but was never able to return to the octagon. An amazing 17 of his victories were by knockout.

After losing the title to Daniel Cormier in 2017, he said he was retiring from MMA. However, in 2021, he made a comeback and won his first fight back, for Bellator, via knockout in the second round. 

Johnson was scheduled to defend his light heavyweight title against Bellator’s Vadim Nemkov in October 2021, but Johnson had to pull out of the bout due to an unexplained illness.
