ATLANTA -- Police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a woman in the English Avenue community of Atlanta earlier in the month.
According to Atlanta Police Department Sgt. John Chafee, Alaysia Smith has been charged with murder and is now being held in the Fulton County Jail more than a week after the initial crime.
Police said Smith's alleged victim, a 31-year-old woman, was already dead when they arrived at 630 Cameron M. Alexander Blvd. But the woman's killer was nowhere to be found.
Preliminary investigation led police to believe that Smith and the victim were involved in a dispute before the altercation turned deadly.
The Atlanta Police Department Fugitive Unit is credited with finding the alleged killer on Wednesday.
