They also have three granddaughters. Shortly after Thomas's career began, he became dependent on drugs and alcohol, which led to the marriage nearly ending and Thomas even coming close to death. Gloria became a Christian in 1975, and less than a month later, so did B.J.; most press sources indicate that Thomas has been sober since their separation was reconciled in 1976.
