Billy Currington’s Rise to Fame
Born in Savannah, Georgia in 1973, Billy Currington started his music career at a young age. After auditioning at Opryland as a high school junior, he moved to Nashville where he worked as a personal trainer and at a concrete company while pursuing his music dreams.
In 2003, Currington signed with Mercury Records and released his self-titled debut album. The album featured hit singles like “Walk a Little Straighter” and “I Got a Feelin”, which peaked at #8 and #5 respectively on the Hot Country Singles chart.
Since then, Currington has released five studio albums, with two certified Gold and one Platinum. He has had 11 Top 40 hits, including “Good Directions”, “People Are Crazy”, and “That’s How Country Boys Roll”. He won a CMT Music Award in 2006 and was nominated for a Grammy in 2010.
Despite his success, Currington has also faced legal troubles. In 2013, he was sentenced to 5 years probation and anger management counseling after being charged with making terrorist threats towards a boat captain.
