MADRID, Spain -- Zinedine Zidane scored in the 67th minute of his final home appearance for Real Madrid in a 3-3 draw with Villarreal in the Primera Liga.
Zidane, who is to retire after the World Cup, sent in a looping header from David Beckham's cross for Madrid's second goal at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Madrid's draw lifted them into second place, one point above Valencia with one match remaining as the teams battle for second position and a direct place in the Champions League.
Zidane's goal delighted Madrid's supporters, who had given him a standing ovation as he walked onto the field. The fans held aloft cards bearing an image of Zidane's No. 5 shirt accompanied by the words "Thank you Zidane."
Madrid, whose players wore a commemorative shirt inscribed with "Zidane 2001-2006" under the team badge, took the lead when Julio Baptista scored with a 23rd-minute volley.
Villarreal battled back and leveled with an own-goal by defender Alvaro Mejia eight minutes later, and then took the lead with striker Diego Forlan's angled volley in the 39th minute.
After Zidane made it 2-2 Forlan scored his second goal in the 86th minute from the penalty spot after defender Sergio Ramos had handled Javi Venta's shot and was sent off.
Baptista equalized in the 88th minute with a header from Beckham's free kick.
Zidane, world player of 1998, 2000 and 2003, will make his final Madrid appearance in the team's visit to Sevilla next week.
He received another rousing reception when he was substituted in the 90th minute.
A tearful Zidane, lacking the shirt he had just swapped with Villarreal's Juan Roman Riquelme, reappeared after the final whistle to chants of his nickname, "Zizou."
Barcelona paraded the league trophy they clinched on Saturday around the city in an open-topped bus while Sunday's games were taking place, although celebrations have been toned down ahead of the Champions League final against Arsenal on May 17.
Osasuna' went down 2-1 at Santander, a blow to their hopes of a Champions League debut next season. Fifth-placed Sevilla are three points behind, but with a game in hand.
Savo Milosevic gave Osasuna the lead after David Lopez had laid the ball across goal in the 56th minute.
The home team spurned the chance to level when Felipe Melo's penalty was parried by goalkeeper Ricardo Lopez, but defender Pablo Alfaro headed home from the resulting corner in the 81st minute.
Striker Antonito Ramiro struck a loose ball home eight minutes later to ensure Santander remain in the first division next season.
Osasuna's Moha El Yaagoubi and Santander's Oscar Serrano were dismissed late in the game.
Cadiz relegated
Cadiz were relegated after a 3-1 defeat at Getafe.
Lucas Lobos' 21st-minute strike gave the visitors the lead, but defender Ruben Pulido, substitute Sergio Pachon and Ivan "Riki" Sanchez-Rico replied with second-half goals.
Promoted last season after a 13-year absence from the top flight, Cadiz joined Malaga, which was relegated two weeks ago.
The third team to be relegated will be Alaves, Espanyol or Athletic Bilbao, who visited Deportivo La Coruna in Sunday's late game.
Real Sociedad achieved safety from relegation with a 2-2 draw with Celta.
Xabi Prieto and Morten Skoubo gave Sociedad a two-goal lead, while Celta striker Fernando Baiano leveled with a penalty and a shot.
Betis also avoided the risk of relegation following a 2-1 victory over Mallorca, but the game at its Manuel Ruiz Lopera stadium was marred by crowd trouble.
Supporters behind a goal lit a fire in the stands at the start of the second half, halting the game for several minutes, while hundreds of fans staged a field invasion before the final whistle.
Betis scored through Guillermo Pereyra's own-goal and Robert's strike, while Yordi Gonzalez then scored Mallorca's goal.
Second-half goals by Zaragoza striker Diego Milito, Brazilian forward Savio Bortolini -- with a penalty on his last home appearance for the club -- and Oscar Gonzalez increased Alaves' relegation fears.
