Mama Rhodes Reacts to The Rock
Cody Rhodes' mom was unsurprisingly not too happy with her son getting a beatdown by The Rock last week on Raw.
Teil Rhodes, Cody's sister, recently appeared on Busted Open and provided her mom's reaction to the segment, which included The Rock whipping Cody with a belt that said "Mama Rhodes."
"She gets it, but she doesn't love it. You know what I mean? She's up on Tuesday morning, and her phone is just blowing up with all these like people, she hasn't heard from in, you know, 25 years, the Rocks talking about you on TV and she's mad. She said she was going to bring her bear spray to Mania."
Of course, we must remind you that this is all in kayfabe to a certain extent. It's likely Cody warned his mother about the segment ahead of time.
That said, any rational mother is going to want to protect her son even in a fictional environment—especially when the biggest movie star on the planet is calling you out in the process.
Omega Rips Trolls on Twitch
Kenny Omega has no return date for his comeback to an AEW ring, and it seems like he's starting to miss the action.
The former AEW champion went on a lengthy rant against his haters during a recent Twitch stream.
"Everyone's wondering, Kenny, 'Why is Kenny so bad at promos? He doesn't have promo game… He needs to cut a promo. That's all I care about.' Shut the f--k up!… Jesus Christ. You're trying to talk about a guy who sold 45,000-seaters with my storytelling? You're trying to tell me I don't know how to tell stories? Because I don't have a yelling promo voice? Yeah? You tell me and then you're gonna say, oh well, The Rock sold more. Of course he f--king did. He's The Goddamn Rock and you know what? I'm not f--king bad myself. I try my best… Honestly though, guys, when I wanna tell a story and I have a way to tell it, I'll tell it in my ways.
"That's all there is to it and maybe if something that I've done isn't exciting or my American-style promos just aren't doing it for you, well, I got news for ya, because I don't care. I don't care. It sucks… Hey, I got out there feeling like, man, what am I even doing out here? Why am I even wasting my Goddamn time? "
Omega went on to point out AEW ratings tend to be higher when he's involved in singles competition, though when he'll be able to get back in the ring remains to be seen. His future remains up in the air amid a bout with diverticulitis, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported Omega is expected to undergo surgery that will sideline him even longer.
For now, we'll have to be satisfied with the occasional Omega promo via Twitch.
Matt Hardy Says AEW Offered New Contract
Matt Hardy's contract is due to expire this year, and some believed we'd be sunsetting his time with the company after an inconsistent run. The reunion with his brother, Jeff, in AEW has largely underwhelmed, with both Hardys looking well past their Attitude Era primes.
Still, it seems Tony Khan sees value in having Matt Hardy around longer. Hardy revealed he's been offered a multiyear AEW contract during a recent episode of his podcast.
"I have an AEW contract sitting in front of me for a few years. I'm looking through it; I'm deciding what I want to do going forward," Hardy said. "There's obviously still some options. I've got to make sure I'm aware of the ins and outs of the contract, and I wanna make sure everything is up to par as far as what I want it to be."
It's unlikely WWE is coming calling for either Hardy at this juncture of his career, so Hardy may be weighing whether he prefers staying where he's at on the card in AEW or going the independent route. Hardy could also garner some interest from TNA for a run that would almost certainly give him a bigger push than he's receiving now.
