The California college wrestler missing video has yet to be made public.
A San Francisco State University wrestler went missing on Thursday after jumping for a polar plunge on a California beach with his two friends.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, Pacifica police reported that 22-year-old Hamzah Alsaudi was swimming at Esplanade Beach when a large wave struck him, pushed away from the shore, and submerged him.
The friend of the 22-year-old tried to find him in the water, but when they were unsuccessful, they managed to return to the beach and dial 911.
Soon after, the police took charge. Drones, aircraft, and a surface vessel were used by police, lifeguards, and the Coast Guard to search for Alsaudi, but no traces were located.
However, the search was suspended on Friday and will not restart. KTVU reported that Alsaudi was swept out to sea.
AlSaudi was a senior who was majoring in political science and minoring in studies of Arab and Muslim ethnic groups. He was a cherished wrestler for the SF State team.
Some people claimed that Alsaudi and his friends had taken a polar plunge, which is a wintertime trend in which swimmers jump into the cold water.
A statement from San Francisco State University announced that the search for the missing wrestler wouldn’t begin.
They paid tribute to the missing 22-year-old.
They wrote: ‘I write to you with a heavy heart. Many of you may have already heard that SF State student Hamzah Alsaudi has been missing since a swimming accident in Pacifica on Thursday, January 19. At this time, we have been told that authorities are no longer actively searching for Hamzah, and he is considered missing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Gator community right now as we process this news. As always, you are not alone at a difficult time like this. Please contact our SF State resources if you need help or need to process with someone. SF State friends of Hamzah and other students who need help should contact Counseling and Psychological Services. Counselors are ready and available to assist you. We remain deeply grateful to the Coast Guard, Police Department, and others for all they have done to help with the search.’
