It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Police Chief Derrick Diggs on 15th February 2023 at the age of 67. Derrick Diggs obituary details are yet to be disclosed.
Derrick had a long and successful career in law enforcement, starting in Ohio before joining the Fort Myers Police Department as chief in 2016.
The Fort Myers PD released a statement praising Chief Diggs for his commitment to service and dedication to police work within the department.
The statement said that “through his leadership, the Fort Myers Police Department has grown and elevated its level of service and respectability”.
Derrick was known for his hard work and was the first Black man to serve as Toledo police chief during his tenure. His colleagues admired him not only for his dedication but also for his resilience in overcoming personal adversity.
Michael Troendle, interim Toledo police chief, offered condolences on Twitter following news of Diggs’ passing.
The cause of Derrick’s death has yet to be revealed but thoughts remain with family, friends, and former colleagues who wish they could have done more to help during this difficult time.
