With a net worth of $6 million, Deryck has been the longest serving original member of Sum 41 since the drummer left in 2013. The band has released five studio albums since 2001, along with several compilation and live albums.

Deryck Whibley was born on March 21, 1980 in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in a single parent household and attended Southwood Park Public School and then Exeter High School. Whibley formed a band with friends which was discovered at War of the Bands.
Aside from music, Whibley was also interested in basketball and was even the captain of his high school basketball team.
Sum 41’s History and Discography
Deryck Whibley formed Sum 41 in 1996 with Jon Marshall, Steve Jocz, and Richard Roy. Originally called Kaspir, they changed their name and signed with Island Records, releasing their first EP “Half Hour of Power” in 2000. Their debut album “All Killer No Filler” was released in 2001, featuring the successful single “Fat Lip.” Their second album “Does This Look Infected” was released in 2002. They continued making music and touring, releasing “Chuck” in 2004 and traveling to the Democratic Republic of Congo to document the country’s civil war. In 2007, “Underclass Hero” was released, followed by “Screaming Bloody Murder” in 2011, “13 Voices” in 2016, and “Order in Decline” in 2019. Whibley is the only constant member of the band.
Throughout their career, Sum 41 has achieved platinum and gold certifications in Canada and the United States. They are known for keeping a rigorous performance schedule. Whibley is known for playing a customized 1972 Fender Telecaster Deluxe and has put out a signature guitar with Squier featuring the same design.

Aside from his role as the lead vocalist and guitarist of Sum 41, Whibley has also ventured into music production and management. He was part of Bunk Rock Music, a music management and production company, and produced The Operation M.D.’s debut album, “We Have an Emergency.” He also worked on Permanent Me’s debut album and collaborated with Avril Lavigne on one of her albums.
Whibley has also contributed his musical talents to other artists’ projects. He provided backing vocals and guitar work for Tommy Lee’s album “Tommyland: The Ride” and worked with Iggy Pop on “A Million in Prizes: The Anthology.” He has also played keyboard and piano for one of Operation M.D.’s tracks and performed live with the band in Toronto. Additionally, he has worked with Methods of Mayhem and 5 Seconds of Summer.
In addition to his music career, Whibley has dabbled in acting, appearing in guest roles on “King of the Hill” and “Dirty Love.”
Personal Life and Health Issues
In 2006, Deryck Whibley married Avril Lavigne after two years of dating. However, their marriage ended in divorce in 2009. In 2015, Whibley married Ariana Cooper, and they have a child together.
Whibley has suffered from chronic back pain since a concert injury in 2007. He has also experienced health issues related to excessive drinking, including liver and kidney failure, which led to hospitalization in 2014.
In 2010, Whibley was attacked in a bar in Japan, resulting in his fourteenth herniated disk in his back. Despite the injury, he rejoined his band for a performance in Osaka.
