Donny Wendell Smith – Metropolitan Funeral

Donny peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at home on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Donny was born June 3, 1952 in Portsmouth, VA, to the late James Brentwood Smith and Dorothy Elizabeth Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers James Woodhouse Smith and Elder Michael Nathaniel Smith. Donny attended Chesapeake Public Schools where he graduated from Indian River High School in 1970. He continued his education at Norfolk State University, Old Dominion College, and completed his Bachelors of Social Work at Washington Adventist University of Tacoma. Donny enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1972-1973, where he worked as a Aircraft, Helicopter and Engineer Mechanic. However, his love for learning placed him back in the classroom where he earned his Master’s in Social Work from Howard University in Washington, DC. Donny always has a passion for mental health and wellness. He shared this message of achieving mental wellness by opening and operating family counseling services while living in Hagerstown, MD and most recently he became a mental health advisor, wellness advisor, and coach in Montgomery, Alabama. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Patricia Smith-Coleman (Chesapeake, VA); his aunt Mildred Sivills (Portsmouth, VA); his five sons Brian Smith (Va. Beach), Nathaniel Smith (Hagerstown, MD), Aaron Smith (Hagerstown, MD), Timothy Smith (Knoxville, TN), and Jayden Smith (Hagerstown, MD); his 5 grandchildren Ka’Niyah Smith, Kameron Smith, Azari Smith, Aziah Smith, Josiah Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
