Elder Fred Julious Long was born October 6, 1933 in North Carolina. He was the son of the late Rufus Long and Mary Howard. After being educated in North Carolina, he became a skilled carpenter and machine operator, working various jobs.

Elder Fred accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. As he learned of Him, his love for the Lord grew. It was evident in his service to the Body of Christ as, Deacon, Elder, and Pastor. No matter the auxiliary of ministry, Elder Fred always served with the love of Christ and the love for his fellow man.

On December 6, 1959, Elder Fred and Johnnie Mae Long were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this union nine children were born. They were also blessed to adopt three children, to love and care for as their own.

While in the comfort of his home, Elder Fred Julious Long peacefully transitioned from death unto eternal life on August 5, 2022. Though we will miss his presence here, we are confident in knowing “to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.” He now awaits the return of Christ along with his parents, Rufus Long and Mary Howard; five children, Fred J. Long, Jr., Davis Tony Long, Bernette Peele-Long, Marcia Long, and Julius LaRosa Long; four sisters, Irma D. Long, Mary Lee Long, Lucy Braswell, Mary Elizabeth Long; and two brothers, William A. Howard and Elijah Long.

Elder Fred leaves his cherished memories to his beloved wife, Mother Johnnie Mae Long; nine children, James E. Long of Salt Lake City, UT, Bernard Long (Valencia) of Charlotte, NC, Frederica Long of Norfolk, VA, Garcia Long of Charlotte, NC, Gillian Long of Hampton, VA, Lillie Mae Long of Charlotte, NC, Stephanie Long of Atlanta, GA, Thelma Long of Clover, SC, and Hope Denise Long of Virginia Beach, VA; special nephew, Curtis M. Long; and a host grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
