Personal Statement

I enjoy running.  I’ve been running and trained since age 14 by dedicated coaches.  I’d like to continue my running and represent my team and compete at a college level. I am a hard worker and a team player.  Although, there’s no track team on the island I reside on.   I will pursue to succeed and achieve my goals with hard work and dedication.  

Coming from a small island, Lana’i City, Hawaii we’re very isolated and not as developed as the neighboring islands.  I currently attend the only high school on the island.  I’ve worked very hard to be the best athlete on the cross country team and to represent my team well.  Lana’i is very limited in regards to sports and to be recognize by scouts with the opportunity to advance on a college level entry.  My high school training facilities compare to other schools in the state and even nation wide is not the best but we make due with what we have.  For example, the weightlifting room measures about the square footage of 14’ x 20’ that the athletes and community shares.  The school does not provide exposure to various sports such as soccer, swimming, lacrosse, gymnastics, and also track & field because of the small student body and funding.

I plan to attend college and study in computer science.  The world today revolves in technology and i’d like to make a difference by someday working for the owner of the island and Oracle Software, “Larry Ellison”, who happens to be the owner of Lana’i.  I would also use my experiences to help upgrade my Dad’s transportation business with advance technology and for various company’s on the island.
