Law enforcement raced to the 1500 block of Midnight Pass, where a gut-wrenching sight awaited them. 

The victim, a 59-year-old woman, lay wounded in her front yard, a large kitchen knife eerily protruding from her head. 

Neighbours rushed to her aid, their quick response potentially pivotal in saving her life.

Remarkably, despite the brutality of the attack, the victim remained conscious and lucid enough to communicate crucial details to the arriving officers.

As the investigation began, the woman bravely recounted the harrowing details of the attack. 

The assailant was none other than her son, Kyle A. Braun. The kitchen of their home had become the battleground for a horrifying confrontation.

As chaos ensued after the attack, the community’s attention turned towards capturing the assailant, Kyle A. Braun. 

Neighbours provided invaluable assistance, directing law enforcement officers to the direction in which he had fled on foot. 

The police’s swift response led to Braun’s arrest, but not before he sustained wounds to his hand that required medical attention.

 His wounds were treated at a local hospital, after which he was taken into custody and booked into the Hendricks County Jail.

Son’s mental health and anger issues

The motive behind such a shocking act of violence emerged as a complex interplay of mental health struggles and unresolved anger issues. 

Braun’s history of mental health problems and tumultuous relationship with his mother seemed to have culminated in this tragic event. Cpt.

 Jennifer Barrett highlighted the troubled dynamic, revealing that Braun had a warrant out for his arrest in Ohio, where he had fled after cutting off his GPS monitoring device. 

The Ohio parole officers had been overseeing his mental health, yet the system had failed to prevent this horrifying outcome.

In further demonstrating his aggression, Kyle A. Braun faced additional charges of battery by bodily waste on officers. 

Even after being apprehended, he persisted in showing aggressive conduct, spitting on the officers working to ensure justice.
