Personal Statement
My name is Hudson Kowalchuk, I am a 2008 left handed defenceman. Although I am a left handed shot I have experience and have been highly trained on both left side and right side. In the past few teams I have been played on my right side. I have also been used as a right , left flex defencema.
For the 2021/2022 season, I played in the U15 AAA league which is the top league in Manitoba. My Wild Gold team made it to the semi finals. Prior to the AAA season I played in the AA league which then at the time was the top tier league in Manitoba for my age. My first year of AA was combined with my age group and the year older. I worked hard and was selected for the All-Star team . My second year of AA (was also the top league for my age group) I was voted as team captain but unfortunately we didn’t have much of a season due to COVID-19.
In the spring I played for a team called Manitoba Elite which was at the time the top Manitoba spring team for my age. Manitoba Elite had a lot of success, including in 2019 winning the Continental Clash tournament down in Minnesota. The Continental Clash tournament had a lot of top spring teams from all over Canada and the United States. It was the big tournament then and Manitoba Elite may even be known as the best spring team in North America that year. In the 2018 spring I made Team Manitoba which was the Brick team. The Brick tournament is a huge tournament for 10 year olds, where teams from all over North America attended. Also many NHL players also went to the Brick tournament. Our Team Manitoba made it to the quarter finals. The year before the Brick tournament I played for the Pre-Brick team, which is also is the top Manitoba team. The tournament was held in Las Vegas where our team had a lot of success and won the championship.
Even though I play Hockey all year round I still manage to get very good marks. I always find the extra time to study and learn. A lot of kids my age don’t find school very fun, but I do in fact find it fun. There is a lot more to life and topics than people might think. I find it fun to discover and learn new things each day. Some of my friends and kids around me in my classes struggle in certain subjects, I like finding ways to help them and show my knowledge to them. My teachers encourage me to be a peer tutor which I enjoy.
My hockey playing style has some unique features that can help a lot of teams out. I find ways on the ice to make it easier on my teammates. I also will take the extra second if it is available to make the even better play. I have the ability to to see the ice and make the right play. My coaches are always telling me that I have a great hockey IQ.
I always find hockey fun and all the challenges that come from it. Hockey has a huge chunk of my heart.
