Before moving to Los Angeles, she attended dance training in Texas. In LA, Perry-Russell attended The Edge Performing Arts Center where she studied dance. She has worked as a dancer with well-known artists such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Cardi B, Chris Brown, and Janelle Monae.

In 2022, she choreographed a dance scene for the Nissan commercial.

The multi-talented actress also began showcasing her dance talents via TikTok during the pandemic. She shares several choreography and creative concepts with her son on the platform.

In 2011, Perry-Russell got an acting breakthrough with her role as Lyric in the dance film Honey 2. Before that, she appeared in minor roles in shows and films such as American Dreams, Love That Girl!, Perfect Combination, and Glee.

The actress also gained popularity for her recurring role as Tracy Porter in the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why alongside Justin Prentice, Dylan Minnette, Alisha Boe, and Kathrine Langford.

In 2020, she portrayed the role of superhero Red Lighting Fury in the film We Can Be Heroes. The actress is also popular for her role as Essence in Family Reunion.
