Personal Statement

I’m a 3-sport athlete who has wanted to swim in college since I was 8 years old. In a way, I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in 1 of the 2 states without high school swimming. Swimming for rural USA club teams,  that have struggled to acquire head coaching and gain pool access, I have learned the value of patience, persistence, adaptability, discipline, and an appreciation for what many swimmers likely take for granted.

My parents have instilled in me a strong work ethic both in and out of the classroom.  In addition to school and sports, I work for a landscaping company during the summer and serve tables at the local country club to help pay my way.  This fall, my Senior SCY season, my parents and I made the decision to switch club teams. This brings with it both increased sacrifice and potential for great reward. I have doubled my commute time to 18 hours a week while also doubling my practice time in the pool to 12 hours a week.  I can already feel the difference and am anticipating some good cuts over the next few months.

I am determined, more than ever, to pursue my dream of collegiate swimming with an institution that will allow me to achieve both my academic and swimming goals. I am confident that I will make a positive impact on your program, representing my college and team, as well as myself and family, very well.
