Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn won't be hitting the golf course this offseason like many of the NHL players who missed out on the postseason. Instead, he'll require surgery on his hip, per reports.

Benn to Have Offseason Surgery, Lengthy Rehab

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, Benn will require surgery despite playing in all 82 games this season and having a fantastic season:

Stars captain Jamie Benn needs hip surgery. Played through it most of the year. And won scoring title. Pretty impressive.

As Mark Stepneski of the team's official site tweeted, Benn's rehab will be quite extensive:

Benn will have about four to five months of rehab following the surgery.

Benn was magnificent for the Stars this season, scoring 35 goals, dishing out 52 assists and winning the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading scorer on the last day of the season after notching four points against the Nashville Predators.

Benn, 25, had easily his best season in the NHL, though his 79 points a year ago were an indication that his star was rising. Now, the Stars will be hoping this surgery completely solves his hip issues from this season and doesn't become a lingering issue, as Benn appears to be one of the league's young, bright stars. 

Dallas will certainly need him next season if it hopes to reach the playoffs in the competitive Western Conference, where the team's 92 points weren't enough to get them into the postseason this year.
