Personal Statement

My name is Jamie Olson, and I am a unique offensive and defensive baseball player. First, I am an ambidextrous pitcher who has had success with both arms from high level travel baseball through high school. My ability to pitch with both arms provides many benefits. I can switch between hitters to create situational advantages for my team. The movement of my pitches promotes a lot of soft contact and swinging strikes. I also have excellent balance, eye-hand coordination and have less stress on my arm since I can use both.

This season, after spending the last two years focused on pitching at the direction of my high school coach, I was asked to help my team offensively as we suffered through the loss of several key offensive players. As an offensive player, I have good opposite field power, produce solid contact rate and have excellent speed which puts pressure on the defense. I was fortunate to have great success this year as I lead the highly competitive Southwest League in hitting at .450 with an OBP of over .500. I was also tasked with manning centerfield for the team where my speed and strong arm were assets to the team. Despite the injuries to my teammates, I was able to help Vista Murrieta High School reach the Division 1 CIF playoffs once again this year while playing a tough schedule of opponents.

My ultimate goal as a student-athlete is to pursue my education and follow my passion as a baseball player. I desire to help the team any way I can whether its as an offensive player or as a pitcher. I am a hard worker both on and off field and will graduate with a 3.5 GPA. I have all the tools to be a successful student-athlete. I hope you will consider me for your program.
