What is John Fetterman’s net worth and Salary?

John Fetterman, the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, has a net worth of $800,000 according to his May 2021 financial disclosure. His assets total between $717,000 and $1.58 million, but the majority of those assets are in trusts and bank accounts for his children, amounting to between $450,000 and $1 million. Fetterman gained national attention in 2020 during his campaign for PA’s open Senate seat, and his fame grew even more in 2022 as he skillfully campaigned against his opponent, television personality Dr. Oz.

Fetterman’s campaign countered Oz’s flubbed attempts to relate with videos and messages posted to social media. The campaign was quick to paint Oz as a carpetbagger, someone who moves to a state right before running for office, which was not inaccurate. Oz has spent much of the last several decades calling New Jersey his primary home state, with a $50 million vacation home in Palm Beach, Florida. He did not even buy a house in Pennsylvania until December 2021. According to Oz’s financial disclosure, he and his wife Lisa own nine other homes outside of Pennsylvania and control assets valued between $100 and $400 million.

Before his position as lieutenant governor, Fetterman served as mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2019.

Early Life and Education

John Karl Fetterman was born on August 15, 1969 in West Reading, Pennsylvania. He grew up in an affluent part of York, PA, with strict conservative Republican parents. Fetterman attended Albright College and earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut in 1993. He later graduated from Harvard in 1999 with a Master of Public Policy degree.

Tragedy and Volunteering

During his time as a student at UConn, Fetterman’s best friend passed away in a car accident. This event had a profound impact on him and led him towards public service. He began volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and was paired with an 8-year-old boy whose parents had passed away from AIDS. Fetterman promised to look after the boy after his mother passed away as well.

Later on, Fetterman began working for AmeriCorps and was assigned to help students in Pittsburgh’s Braddock suburb earn their GEDs.

John Fetterman’s Time as Mayor of Braddock

In 2004, John officially moved to Braddock and became the city’s part-time mayor in 2006. He later became the full-time director of the youth program and eventually the full-time mayor in 2006, serving until 2019 when he became Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania.

Despite the meager salary of just $150 per month, John chose to not take any other paying jobs during his time as mayor. To make ends meet, he received an estimated $54,000 worth of assistance from his parents in 2015 alone, according to his financial disclosures.

In 2013, John purchased a former Chevy dealership from his sister for just $1, which he and his wife Gisele converted into their residence. The sister had originally purchased the property in 2007 for $70,000.

John Fetterman’s Political Campaigns

John Fetterman first ran for Senate in 2016, but was unsuccessful. However, in 2018, he was elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, earning an annual salary of $217,610.

In 2021, Fetterman announced his second campaign for Senate and won the Democratic nomination with nearly 60% of the vote. He then became direct opponents with Dr. Oz, who won the Republican primary. The two waged a bitter-at-times social media campaign throughout much of 2022.

Despite this, most would agree that Fetterman’s side did a far superior job at making Oz look like a foolish, flubbing out-of-state carpetbagger.

Marriage and Family

John Fetterman married Brazilian immigrant Gisele Barreto in 2008. They have three children together and currently reside in a converted Chevy dealership in Braddock.

John Fetterman’s Height

John Fetterman, known for his towering height, stands at 6 feet 9 inches.
