Fetterman attended Albright College and earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut in 1993. He later graduated from Harvard in 1999 with a Master of Public Policy degree.

Tragedy and Volunteering

During his time as a student at UConn, Fetterman’s best friend passed away in a car accident. This event had a profound impact on him and led him towards public service. He began volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and was paired with an 8-year-old boy whose parents had passed away from AIDS. Fetterman promised to look after the boy after his mother passed away as well.

Later on, Fetterman began working for AmeriCorps and was assigned to help students in Pittsburgh’s Braddock suburb earn their GEDs.
