Personal Statement

I have been playing soccer since I was four years old. I have always pushed to become the best player I could possibly be and having always played soccer in the Philippines, I pushed to see how I would fare internationally. In 2011, I made the U13 Philippine Soccer National Team for the first time. In the years that followed, I made the U14, U15, U16, and most recently the U19 National Teams of my country, competing against the youth national teams of countries like Japan and Australia in officially sanctioned international matches. I believe the next step in furthering my abilities is to take my soccer to America.

I have an excellent understanding of the game and excellent ball handling skills to back myself up. My ability to read the game allows me to play smarter as well. I lead the team from the back and am often one of the loudest players on the field as I guide my teammates whilst also providing motivating words.

Academically, I am a relatively strong student and push myself to not only achieve the highest of grades, but also to learn as much as I can about anything and everything. I am an enthusiastic student in the classroom and a persistent learner outside of the classroom, always following up for work that I may have missed due to absences or asking for extra work in order to completely understand topics.

I want to attend a university where I can learn as much as possible academically and also enhance my abilities on the field firstly as a member of the team and then secondly as an individual player. Although I am open to all options and want to find the college best suited for me, I want to play at the highest level possible so as to constantly push myself on and off the field. I hope to be the first Filipino-born national team player who plays soccer at the collegiate level in the States so that someday I may come back and share my knowledge to better the level of play in my country.
