Personal Statement

Updated on March 9, 2021

This new year of 2021 did not start the way I expected.  On January 19, I had open heart surgery.  I had been experiencing chest pain during pitching drills.  After several tests at Children's, a rare birth defect was detected.  I'm so lucky that this was found and am now cleared to start playing again! My goal this year is to get back to where I was before surgery.  I know it will be hard but I'm ready to work.  I have great teammates and coaches who will continue to support me on and off the field.  I am so excited for the high school and club seasons!

My love for softball began when I started playing slowpitch softball at 11 years old.  At the end of the season, my Dad took me to a fastpitch softball game to see what it was like.  After I saw the first pitch, I was hooked and knew I wanted to play fastpitch softball.  I was a few years behind all the girls with my skills when I first started, but that didn't stop me.

My goal for playing softball is to become a better player and athlete as well as be a better person.  Playing softball makes me feel happy.  I enjoy being a team player and my team is like a family to me.    Pitching is my favorite position when on the field, but I can play other positions. I’ve played first base and outfield.

All my teammates are like sisters that push each other to get better and have each others back.  When I am on the field, softball is all that I think about.

Another goal of mine is to become a faster pitcher and increase my speed with base running.  I enjoy when my coach pushes me to meet my goals as a player but also keeps pushing me even after I have achieved the goals.

I believe I am a good candidate on any team.  I keep a positive attitude and work hard every time I step on the field at practice or in a game.  It takes a team effort to play the game.  Softball has created an environment for me that I love.
