Personal Statement

The quote, "When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful", is what drives me in baseball and in life. My desire to be successful in all aspects of my life motivates me to continually challenge myself and take on the task of becoming the best I can be. Baseball has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. It has taught me many things that make me who I am today.  I believe that the most important are: teamwork, leadership, integrity, and overcoming adversity.

Adversity taught me a valuable lesson on and off the field. I can remember not making the 7th grade varsity team. I remember looking at the roster on the coaches door, not seeing my name and becoming devastated and demoralized. I felt this awful pit in my stomach and what I realized immediately, is that I never wanted to feel this way again. From then on, I've worked harder than ever before, making the 8th grade varsity team and excelling as a player.  I continued this with my 16U team where I lead the team in fielding and hitting. Unfortunately, a freak play resulted in a broken thumb and cut my season short right before the state tournament. I made the best of it by supporting my team each game, and filling in as first base coach when we were a coach down. As a leader, I felt it was important to show my support and my duty to make them better and succeed any way I could.

When considering colleges, I'm looking for one that will give me the opportunity to show what type of player and person I am.  I'm looking for a school that has a commitment to excellence and will challenge me on and off the field. I want to be in an environment where I can compete and grow, bettering my skills  and helping me become the best student athlete possible.
