Personal Statement

I may be small but I definitely do not play small. When anyone sees me before the game starts, they always underestimate my abilities because I am 5'0". Once I step onto that court and start playing, other players, coaches, and parents, are shocked at what I am capable of doing. I am very determined, I hustle, and I always put forth 150% effort. I am a setter who knows how to work her offense and try to give them the best opportunity to get that point. If I mess up on one set, I am immediately doing my best to fix it the next play.  I don't stop hustling until that ball hits the floor and I've made a strong effort of keeping it in play.

Academically, I am someone that you want at your college. I have a 4.0 GPA and getting good grades is something that I strive for. I do not procrastinate when it comes to schoolwork and I like to get the assignment done as soon as I receive it. I work hard in the classroom and that is something that transfers over to volleyball. I don't just play volleyball though. I also play softball on my high school's varsity team. I am my team's first basemen and a lot of people know that usually your first basemen is supposed to be pretty tall, but I challenged myself and like my coach says, "You may be 5'0", but you play like you're 8'0" tall". Even though I play softball, volleyball is definitely where my heart is at.

I try to stay as conditioned as I can and I really try to build up my legs to get a higher jump because I know that my height is definitely a set back. I am very coach-able. When my coach tells me that I need to fix something I do my very best to fix it and when my coach is telling me something I'm paying attention and holding eye contact instead of staring off into space or rolling my eyes. I take criticism very well and I use it to improve my game. I definitely do not want to end my volleyball career at the high school level. My goal is to play in college where ever I can. My passion is volleyball and I'm just trying to play it for as long as I can. After college I aspire to become an athletic trainer or a physical therapist so I am definitely looking for a school that has one of those two majors.

My character is something that I live by. When we play a game, even if we lose. I want the other team to look at me and think "wow, she gave it everything she got, never gave up, and left it all on the court." I like my team to be the team that other schools or clubs fear playing, that we work so well as a team that our opponent is nervous to face us. I strive to improve every single day. I'm only a sophomore in high school right now but I know that I have a lot of room for improvement and I am going to do my very best in excelling in volleyball because everyone knows that there is always some way that you can get better as an athlete and a person.
