I am different from most recruits because I have had to fight hard to keep playing this sport that I love. Volleyball players are typically very tall and are always picked for varsity and club teams to fill out the front row. I am 5’3’’ and started out as DS when I started playing when I was 11. I quickly learned the game and by the time I was 13 I moved to setting. The club team I played for cut me because of my size. I tried out again for another club team and because of my setting skills, strength and agility at 15 I began playing on their regional 18 team. I called the plays, learned a lot about leadership, and earned the respect of the seniors. I stayed on the same club as a 16 year old and became primary setter again for the team. I drew from the experience I had when I was a freshman making the Varsity volleyball team at my high school. The team was rebuilding and I learned the libero position as well as OS as they had a primary setter when I joined the team.
I am also different because I have maintained straight A’s in honor classes since Freshman year, balancing several clubs, national honor society and ambassador programs. I have also earned my Girl Scout bronze, silver, and working toward my gold award. I am very serious about school and already looking to major in Political Science. I have attended a Student Leadership Conference in Washington DC this past June where I attended lectures at a university, networked and worked on a case where I was asked to kick off with the leading argument. I am very focused and passionate at whatever I pursue. I feel I would be a great addition to your school and volleyball team. I leave it all on the court, I’m all heart and love the sport so much.
