Isabella Strahan, daughter of Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.
The 19-year-old said in an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America she received the diagnosis in October after experiencing headaches and nausea.
"I didn't notice anything was off till probably like Oct. 1," Isabella said. "That's when I definitely noticed headaches, nausea, couldn't walk straight."
It wasn't until a few weeks later, Isabella said, that she realized something was really wrong.
"I woke up, probably at like, 1 p.m. I dreaded waking up. But I was throwing up blood," she recounted. "I was like, 'Hm, this probably isn't good.' So I texted [my sister], who then notified the whole family."
Isabella had surgery to remove the four-centimeter tumor from her brain on Oct. 27, and she recently finished radiation treatment.
"So I just finished radiation therapy, which is proton radiation, and I got to ring the bell yesterday," she said. "It was great. It was very exciting because it's been a long 30 sessions, six weeks."
Michael, who was part of the interview with his daughter, said the medulloblastoma Isabella was diagnosed with typically impacts younger children.
"But rarely someone who's 18, 19 years old," he said. "But it's still scary because it's still so much to go through. And the hardest thing to get over is to think that she has to go through this herself."
Michael had a three-week leave from Good Morning America during the fall. He said upon returning to the show on Nov. 15 he was away to deal with "personal family matters," but didn't provide specific details about the situation.
The next step for Isabella will be chemotherapy at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center starting in February. She said she also plans to return to college eventually. She was a freshman at USC at the time of her diagnosis.
