Vick Just a Backup at This Stage of His Career

Vick didn't capitalize on his chance to start for the New York Jets last season and eventually returned to the bench in favor of young signal-caller Geno Smith. The Steelers brought Vick aboard as a veteran backup to Ben Roethlisberger prior to Week 3 of the preseason, calling him into action after Roethlisberger suffered a knee injury against the St. Louis Rams.

Known for a reckless brand of football that's resulted in frequent giveaways and injuries, Vick had a brief renaissance in Philadelphia before various ailments and age caused him to regress.

Pittsburgh can't hope for too much out of Vick at this point in his career, despite the fact that he orchestrated a comeback in Week 5's win over San Diego. What he does bring to the gridiron is a rocket arm and enough athleticism to keep defenses honest with his legs, but as his body continues to absorb punishment, his unique mobility will only further diminish.

With Roethlisberger once again injured in Week 9, Vick will likely serve as backup to Jones until the Steelers' franchise quarterback is healthy.
