Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris has made some progress toward his physique heading into his fourth NFL season.

Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Brian Batko (h/t NFL.com's Kevin Patra), Harris' trainer, Josh Scott, said the running back has lost nearly 10 pounds thanks to him being "extremely clean -- almost obsessively clean -- with his diet."

"He's motivated, to say the least," Scott said.

Scott said Harris has gone from 242 pounds to around 235 this offseason as he gears up for a contract year.

Harris is entering the final season of his rookie contract after the Steelers declined his fifth-year option. Scott said the uncertainty regarding his future in Pittsburgh has served as motivation to get better this offseason.

"It's all fueling his fire to have an even better season than last year and prove a lot of people wrong," Scott said. "There's a lot of people that hate on him for whatever reason, but he's been as consistent as you can be. He's durable. I think he's going to continue with that. I mean, contract season, that pretty much speaks for itself."

Since he was drafted 24th overall in 2021, Harris has rushed for 1,000+ yards in each season. Last year, he notched 1,035 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns while also picking up 170 yards through the air. He also had a career-high 4.1 yards per carry average in 2023.

While he has been consistent throughout his career, he's looking to make the jump to become an elite back, and shedding some weight this offseason could help.

The 2024 season could be a big one for Harris under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and if he's able to improve his already solid production it could lead to a big contract either with the Steelers or elsewhere.
