The NFL announced that Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 after video surfaced on social media appearing to show him throwing his drink in the direction of Jacksonville Jaguars' fans on Sunday.

A bit different of a mood from him after the game

"All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL," the league said in a statement.

Tepper responded with a statement of his own.

"I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday," he wrote. "I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL's code of conduct and accept the League's discipline for my behavior."

For many people, $300,000 would be a significant amount of money, even for the slew of millionaires Tepper employs on Carolina's roster. But Forbes estimates that the Carolina owner, who made his fortune as a hedge fund manager, is worth around $20.6 billion.

That means his punishment is the equivalent of fining an employee making $50,000 a year a whopping $0.75.

I'm not going to do the math of what a $300,000 fine for a man of David Tepper's means equates to what it would be for a non-billionaire. Bud Adams was fined $250K for making an obscene gesture at a fan. Tepper threw something at a fan. Feels worse.

It's a good thing David Tepper didn't lower his helmet on the fan. Imagine what they would've fined him then!

David Tepper is another living proof that the NFL's primary criteria for ownership is net worth.
Everything else -- patience, empathy, etc -- is secondary.
Thus, owners who are not used to hearing the word "No" and coddled by those around them, including NFL senior officials.

Tepper, 66, bought the Panthers in 2018 and the franchise has endured five straight losing seasons on his watch, three different head coaches and three interim coaches.

The Panthers (2-14) are guaranteed to finish this season with the league's worst record but won't have to the top overall pick as consolation, having traded the rights to it to the Chicago Bears last season in the deal that secured them the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

That pick was used to select Bryce Young, and the rookie quarterback has struggled in his first season, throwing for 2,783 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while taking 59 sacks and completing just 59.7 percent of his passes.

So the Panthers find themselves with a questionable option as the future of the quarterback position; uncertainty surrounding the next head coach; a roster devoid of talent and no first-round pick this offseason to address those needs; and an owner who threw his beverage at opposing fans in frustration.

Things are looking fairly bleak in Carolina, in other words.
