Peri Gilpin has appeared in several TV shows and movies. In the TV series Frasier, her character as Roz Doyle became amazingly successful and heightened her profession as an actress. 

Who is Peri Gilpin?

Peri Gilpin is a famous American celebrity who works as an actor, producer and voice artist in famous television and films. She takes those successful projects to her credit. 

Peri Gilpin was born to an actress/model mom and a radio host dad, she revealed a natural attraction for the entertainment world in her early life. On her father’s radio show, she began her adventure as a performing artist. 

She began acting in dramas produced by the Dallas theatre company, at the age of eight. Gilpin is best recognized for her performance as Roz Doyle, a sharp and wisecracking radio show producer, on the sitcom Frasier. 

The top-rated series that continued for more than a decade got Gilpin numerous award nominations and accolades. 

Gilpin has been taking part in several telefilms in recent times, such as How to Train Your Husband (2018) and ‘Old Guy‘ (2018). Her recent projects, which she has stopped filming, include movies, ‘Benjamin’, ‘Oleander‘ and ‘Leave Us Here’. Apart from her acting works, Gilpin is keenly engaged in attempts to establish funds for cancer research.

Childhood and Early Life of Peri Gilpin

On 27 May 1961, Peri Gilpin was born to the parents, James Franklin Oldham and Sandra Jo Hauck in Waco, Texas, as Peri Kay Oldham. She is of diverse ethnic culture such as English, Croatian, German and Irish.

When Gilpin was just eight years old, her parents separated. Consequently, she migrated to Dallas with her mother. She finished her high school at Skyline high school, Dallas.

About graduating from high school, Gilpin studied acting at the University of Texas, Austin, before joining London’s British American Drama Academy.

After her parents parted, her mother married Allen W Gilpin. 

After her biological father died on 25 September 1983, during a skydiving accident, Peri took the surname of her step-father.

She has a sister named Patti Jo Wynne. Her other half-sister, late April Gilpin, who passed away in 2017, was also an actress. She has a half-brother Marc Gilpin, who is also an actor.

Career of Peri Gilpin

After she graduated from the Drama Academy in London, Peri Gilpin came to Dallas and started her profession as a make-up artist. Later, she served as an assistant for the Williamstown Theatre Festival, a resident summer theatre on the Williams Colleges’ campus in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Serving as an assistant supported Gilpin to strengthen connections within the entertainment world. 

At Williamstown, Gilpin became the friend of actress Blythe Danner who later encouraged her to get a role in the Off-off-Broadway production of ‘Lucky Lucy and Fortune Man’. After that, she preferred to act in many regional theatre productions.

In 1988, Gilpin started television with the role of Fitzgerald in the series of crime thrillers, named ‘21 Jump Street‘. In the same year, she also worked in an episode of the show ‘Almost Grown’.

In 1990, she performed in an episode of ‘Matlock’ as Leslie Matthews.

After Gilpin moved to Los Angeles, she performed in various TV shows, particularly ‘Cheers’, ‘Wings’, and ‘Designing Women’. 

In 1991, she acted opposite actor David Keith in the television series ‘Flesh ‘N’ Blood’, performing the role of Irene. It was her first significant role on a television series, and she appeared in all 12 episodes. 

This led to her being cast in another series named ‘Local Heroes’ opposite David Keith.

Gilpin performed in various television series during the early and mid-90s, including ‘Frasier’ and ‘Pride and Joy’ (1993). She made guest appearances in TV shows like ‘Desperate Housewives, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, and ‘Drop Dead Diva.’ Her other outstanding series include ‘Make it or Break it’ (2009-2011), ‘Men at Work’ (2013), ‘Mr. Robinson’ (2015).

Furthermore, to tele-series, she has also appeared in various telefilms. In the 1995 television film ‘Fight For Justice: The Nancy Conn Story,’ Gilpin played the part of Charlotte Parks beside actress Marilu Henner. 

In the 1996, NBC telefilm ‘The Secret She Carried,’ Gilpin was selected in the titular role of Ellen Hayward opposite D.W. Moffett and Jere Burns. Her other famous telefilms include ‘Uncommon Sense’ (2005), ‘Women of a Certain Age’ (2006), ‘For the Love of a Child’ (2006), ‘Crossroads: A story of Forgiveness’ (2007), ‘The Choking Game’ (2014) and ‘A Dash of Love’ (2017).

Gilpin is also a voice-over artist who has presented her voice for many animated series, specifically, ‘The Jungle Book: Mowgli’s Story’ (1998), ‘Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within’ (2001), ‘Thru the Moebius Strip’ (2005), ‘Hellboy: Sword of Strom’ (2006), and ‘Hellboy: Blood and Iron’ (2007).

Gilpin and friend ‘Frasier’ actress Jane Leeves owned their production house named ‘Bristol Cities’. They collectively produced the American remake of the British sitcom ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.

Peri Gilpin acted as Roz Doyle, a radio show producer, in the critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning comic television series ‘Frasier‘ from 1993 to 2004. 

Her performance gained her a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 1999.

She got a Gracie award for her role in ‘Make it or Break it’ (2009-2011), a comic series showing the life of three teen gymnasts.

Family & Personal Life of Peri Gilpin

On 31 July 1999, Peri Gilpin married Christian Vincent, a realist painter. They have twins called Stella Mae and Ava Pearl together. Peri Gilpin currently resides in Los Angeles.

In 1997, Gilpin’s mother died of Leiomyosarcoma. Since then, she has actively participated in efforts to build awareness about cancers that affect women. 

She arranges the annual Les Girls cabaret fundraiser to donate to cancer research. Gilpin is also an honorary Board Member of the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA).
