Peter Falk, the American actor known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo in the popular TV series of the same name, had a net worth of $5 million at the time of his death in 2011. Falk was born in New York City in 1927 and started his career in the theater before breaking into film with Murder, Inc. He was advised that his glass eye may limit his success in film, but he went on to be cast in legendary director Frank Capra’s final film, Pocketful of Miracles.
Falk’s most famous role was as Lieutenant Columbo, which first aired in 1968 and became a hugely popular TV series. At the peak of the show’s success in the late-1970s, Falk earned $300,000 per episode, which is equivalent to around $750,000 per episode today after adjusting for inflation. After Columbo, Falk appeared in artistic films from directors such as Wim Wenders and John Cassavetes.
