Kate Middleton and Prince William are aspiring to make the royal life a little less intimidating for their three children, especially for their 10-year-old, Prince George, PEOPLE magazine reports.

The Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly hope to help the kids transition into royal life as seamlessly as possible, with Robert Hardman, author of The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, exclusively telling PEOPLE that the young parents are “not in denial” about the pressures of royal life.

“William is trying to normalize it,” Hardman told the publication of the father's attempts to demystify royal life for his son, George. Hardman also told the magazine that the couple wants to help George learn that “it’s not scary” to be part of the royal family, “that it's something that they understand and it’s going to be part of their life.”

Prince William is next in the line of succession when his father, King Charles, eventually passes.
William's son George is heir to the throne as his eldest child. "There is no expectation that any royal duties are going to kick in until George is well into his 20s," a Kensington Palace source told Hardman in his new book, per PEOPLE.

Prince William, 41, made waves in other ways yesterday after pulling out of a planned appearance at the memorial ceremony for his godfather, Constantine II of Greece, who died last year. Palace watchers wondered if William's absence was related to the recent health struggles of his wife or his father, Charles. Middleton is presently recuperating after a January abdominal surgery, and Charles is currently being treated for cancer.
