Unless you have been living under a rock, you will have heard of the birth of a real-life princess in London, UK over the weekend. Two days later, her name was announced as Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Now, in the latest instalment of princess pandemonium gripping the world, we learn that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are just like the rest of us. Well, sort of.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana’s birth certificate lists her parents’ occupations as “Prince of the United Kingdom” and “Princess of the United Kingdom,” with her “usual address” at Kensington Palace, London.

We imagine Kensington Palace’s unofficial response might be: “they hate us ‘cos they ain’t us.” Perhaps.

Regardless, at least everyone can agree that Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge is adorable.

Princess Charlotte was born on May 2nd, less than three hours after the couple arrived at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London. She weighed 8 lbs, 3 ounces.

Her name is a nod to her grandfather Prince Charles — “Charlotte” is the female form of Charles — while “Elizabeth” is paying respect to The Queen, and “Diana” is a touching tribute to Prince William’s late mother, the Princess of Wales.

The baby is fourth in line to the throne after her grandfather Prince Charles, her father Prince William, and her brother Prince George.

The unofficial town crier Tony Appleton announced the news of the birth outside the hospital.

There was also a 41-round salute by The King’s Royal Horse Artillery.

Outside the hospital, people were… getting into the spirit of things.

London’s BT Tower displayed a special message to mark the occasion.

And the fountains at Trafalgar Square turned purple to mark the occasion.

What a week!
