Personal Statement

My name is Ray Gayk and I currently attend Santa Rosa Academy, which is a college prep charter school in Menifee, CA.  I live with my parents, brother and sister;  we are a very tight knit family that spends a great deal of time together participating in sports, church and many outdoor activities.  I have played organized sports since I was 4 years old, participating in baseball, wrestling, football, lacrosse and golf.  In the 7th grade I began playing lacrosse as a goalie and within 2 years was invited to play on a team that competed nationally.  As I approached my freshman year of high school I really wanted to play lacrosse at a high level and possibly in college.  Sadly, Santa Rosa  did not offer lacrosse; so after much consideration, I decided with the support of my parents, to give up lacrosse which led me to Golf.

Similar to lacrosse I fell in love with golf and began learning every thing I could about the game.  I have played varsity golf since my freshman year and have a  true passion for this sport.  I've had several lessons, worked hard and have been shooting in the high seventies.  I have recently been appointed captain of our varsity golf  team and look forward to great season.

Academically I have chosen to take some very challenging college prep and honors classes to better prepare myself for college.  I have a  3.34 GPA but my goal is to be in the 3.5 range by my senior year. Other than academics, I am very involved in my school by participating in our  leadership class as the treasurer and vice president (in line to be the president my senior year). The leadership class organizes all the schools extra curricular activities, provides student leadership, attends leadership conferences and fund raises for our class. In addition to the leadership class I am the president of our dance committee which is in charge of organizing all the dances for our school.  I am also very involved in our church (St. Martha's) in Murrieta, CA through a program called "Little Saints", which teaches younger school children about the church and our faith.

The three biggest lessons I have learned regarding athletics is how to work hard, remain humble and always put my team first.  I have strived to be well rounded in life, academics, and athletics, constantly challenging myself to do my best.  I look forward to pursuing my goal of attending college and participating at the collegiate level as a student athlete.
