The community of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, is mourning the sudden loss of one of its beloved members, Raymond “Ray” M. Freil. Ray unexpectedly passed away on November 21, 2023, leaving a void in the hearts of many.

Born on May 8, 1971, to the late Maudlynn (Freil) Boxter, Ray was a true son of Mahanoy City. He carried the values of this tight-knit community throughout his life, touching the lives of many with his warmth and kindness.

Ray was a proud graduate of Mahanoy Area High School class of 1989 and Stevens Trade School, Williamsport, where he earned a degree in printing. His dedication to his craft led him to a fulfilling career at Hexcel Corporation in St. Clair, PA.

Ray was preceded in death by his mother, his maternal grandmother Jane Freil, his maternal grandfather Charles Freil, and his nephew Zachary Freil. He leaves behind his beloved son Jacob R. Freil, with whom he shared a home in Mahanoy City, a half-sister Samantha Boxter, half-brother George Boxter of Barnesville, PA, Uncles Charles and Thomas Freil, and several cousins.

A steadfast member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ray was also part of The Mahanoy City Social and Athletic Club, Bears Head, Delano, The East End Sportsman Club, Shenandoah, and The American Legion Post 74, Mahanoy City. His involvement in these organizations was a testament to his commitment to his community.

Above all, Ray was most proud of his son, Jacob. Those who knew Ray could attest to the love he had for his son. He was always seen with a smile on his face and laughter in his heart, a reflection of the joy he found in fatherhood.

Ray was known for his love of Harleys and spending time with his many friends, especially his dear friends Keith and Lisa Barkus of Mahanoy City. His zest for life and his ability to bring joy to others will be deeply missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, Mahanoy City, on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Fred Crawford officiating. Friends and family may gather from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery Association, Mahanoy City.

As we remember Ray, we celebrate a life well-lived. His legacy of love, laughter, and community spirit will live on through those who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
