Report: Ex-Eagles DT Tim Jernigan Jr., Texans Agree to 1-Year, $3.75M Contract | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

The Houston Texans and defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan agreed to a one-year, $3.75 million contract Wednesday.

Agent Bill Johnson told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that the deal carries $1.25 million in guarantees.

Injuries have cost Jernigan 19 games over the last two seasons. In 2018, he missed all but three games because of a non-football back injury that forced him to renegotiate his contract with the Eagles and take a pay cut. He missed six games in 2019 with a foot injury.

"I've been through a lot the last two years," Jernigan told reporters in January. "I've had my highs and lows, I've had my times where I didn't know if I was gonna make it. I went through every emotion, but I made it. That's definitely a positive to take from the season. I was able to finish this thing the right way."

A 2014 second-round pick, Jernigan spent his first three NFL seasons in Baltimore. While he's never been a Pro Bowl-caliber player, Jernigan has been a solid interior force when he's been able to stay on the field.

The Texans are hoping a one-year, buy-low contract will make him one of the biggest bargains of the offseason.
