Ric Flair’s Early Life

Ric Flair, born Richard Morgan Fliehr, was adopted as a child and it is believed that his birth name is Fred Phillips, Fred Demaree or Fred Stewart. He was born on February 25, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, and his adoptive family settled in Edina, Minnesota. Flair attended Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, where he was on the wrestling team, played football and ran track. He briefly attended the University of Minnesota with plans to study medicine, but dropped out to pursue a career in professional wrestling.

Ric Flair’s Wrestling Career

Ric Flair, also known as “The Nature Boy,” began his wrestling career in 1972, making his professional debut against “Scrap Iron” George Gadaski. He went on to become a regular for Jim Crockett Promotions in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he won his first NWA World title in 1981. Flair had a prolific wrestling career, working for World Championship Wrestling, TNA Wrestling, and Vince McMahon’s WWE. He headlined numerous pay-per-view events, including Starrcade 10 times and WrestleMania in 1992, where he won the Royal Rumble. Flair is an eight-time PWI Wrestler of the Year and is inducted into multiple Hall of Fames, including the WWE Hall of Fame twice.

Flair is a 16-time world champion, holding eight NWA World Heavyweight Championships, six WCW World Heavyweight Championships, and two WWF Championships. He was the first holder of the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship and the first person to complete WCW’s Triple Crown. Ric Flair’s Personal Life

Ric Flair has been married five times. His first marriage was to Leslie Goodman in 1971 and they had two children together. They divorced in 1983. He then married Elizabeth Harrell in 1983 and they had two children together as well. They divorced in 2006. Flair then married Tiffany VanDemark in 2006, but they divorced in 2009. He married Jackie Beems in 2009, but they divorced in 2014. His fifth and current marriage is to Wendy Barlow, whom he married in 2018.

Flair’s son David and daughter Ashley are both involved in the wrestling business. However, Flair’s son Reid passed away in 2013 due to a drug overdose.

According to legal filings released in 2019, Ric reportedly failed to pay his full tax amounts for his earnings between 2016 and 2018. The filing showed that he owed the Federal government $240,000 and the state of Georgia $40,000.

Also in 2019, Rick experienced a medical emergency requiring heart surgery that left him with a reported $1.8 million medical bill not covered by insurance.
