The Shankly Hotel, Preston

Before Bill Shankly became a Liverpool icon he spent the 1930s and 1940s as a midfielder for Preston North End. The Lancashire city will get another tribute to the footballing giant in the shape of the boutique Shankley Hotel, due start taking guests from April 2019 (there's already one in Liverpool, which opened in 2015). It will be housed in a 114-year-old former post office and contain 60 rooms decorated in soft pastel shades, opulent eggshell blues and fresh whites with oak features and a hint of gold gilt edge detailing.
