On Sunday February 10, 2019 at 1:40 AM, a beautiful spirit departed from this life and was swept away into God’s loving arms. Thelma Rawls Warren found her peace after a long period of debilitating illness. Devoted members of her family were at her bedside, steadfast and praying as she slipped away home to Glory.

Thelma was the oldest daughter of ten siblings born to Nannie and Lonnie Rawls Sr. of Norfolk, VA. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and was active in many clubs and organization of the day. Thelma met and was wed to James “Sonny” Warren of Holland, VA and the two spent many years as husband and wife. At a tender age Thelma
was raised to a Christian life and was one of The First Baptist Church Bute Street’s most faithful members. She was a pillar of the FBC community and dedicated her life as a servant of our Lord, never failing to step up to the promise to do God’s good work.

Thelma was a valued member of The United Order of Tents, Star of the East Tent #6; where she received acknowledgment for her faithful service and dedication to their cause. She was an Assistant Minister of Music at First Baptist Church and Co-founder of THE Cherub Choir. Her additional accomplishments include her active participation as a member of the following organizations, the Baptist Training Union (BTU), the Mary J. Brown Missionary Group, the Chancel Choir, the Men’s Choir, the Men’s Chorus, the Women’s, the Love Choir, the Singles Ministry, Shepherds Village Pianist and so much more.

Left to cherish the memory of our dear one is her niece and loving caregiver, Gloria Howard (William); other nieces, Bernice Holloway (Steve), Jacqueline Harper (Reginald) Michelle Rawls, Brenda Rawls (Eugene), Mazi Rawls, Sharon Rawls Goodwin; nephew Ronald Boykin (Shirley), sister in-law, Dorothy Bailey Rawls and a host of other family friends and
church family and distant relatives in Waynesboro and Holland Virginia. Thelma Rawls Warren was a gift and a sweet blessing to all who knew here. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered.
