TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Not long ago, a video on tips for choosing train seats so they don't face backwards went viral on TikTok social media. The video was uploaded by the account owner @revandhikab. Based on his experience, people should choose a premium economy class train seat so that you don't sit backwards, and also to follow a certain formula.

“The formula for choosing a premium economy seat so that you will not face backwards, trains from west to east take number 12 to the last. The opposite applies if the train goes from east to west, choose the seat from the smallest number. This is based on personal experience," said Revan Dhika in the video.

Apart from using this formula, reported from various sources, here are some tips for choosing train seats so they will not face backwards:

1. Know the type of train class

As is known, trains have four types of classes: luxury, executive, business and economy. Of the four types of class, only economy class seats cannot be directed according to the speed of the train or even go backwards. Meanwhile, for other classes, it is certain that they will not go against the direction of the train because they can be adjusted according to the wishes of passengers.

2. Apply the Odd and Even Formula

If you want to go east, you should choose an odd number of seats. Meanwhile, if you want to go west, then choose an even number of seats. Several passengers claimed to have proven the effectiveness of this formula and succeeded in getting seats in the same direction as the train, i.e. not facing backwards.

3. Consider choosing train tickets with large and small numbers

If the odd and even formula above doesn't work, you need to try using the next formula, which is following the formula for large and small numbers. For example, if you want to go east, please order train tickets from number 12 and above. On the other hand, choose the train ticket from the smallest number if you want to go west.

4. Don't Go Alone

The final tip that you can do is not to go by train alone. That means, go with your friends or family members, then choose seats facing each other. That way, even if one of the seats is backwards and not in the same direction as the train, you can occasionally swap seats with your friends or family.
