The UFC is coming to the Sphere.
UFC president Dana White announced on Saturday that September's UFC 306 pay-per-view will take place at the Las Vegas Sphere on Sept. 14. White also announced UFC 303 will take place June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
No card was announced for either Las Vegas pay-per-view.
It's likely White will want the Sphere event to rank among the biggest in UFC history. That could mean the return of Conor McGregor, who has been out of action for nearly three years since breaking his leg in a July 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier.
Michael Chandler, McGregor's presumed next opponent, appeared on WWE Raw earlier this month to call out McGregor for a bout. Chandler and McGregor were coaches on the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, which typically leads to a match between the pair.
"Conor will fight this year. I'm thinking the fall, sometime in the fall," White said on The Jim Rome Show. "He won't be on (UFC) 300."
The September date for the Sphere would make a ton of sense in turning the event into a spectacle. The Sphere, an immersive entertainment and music venue in Las Vegas, opened last year to rave reviews. U2 is in the midst of a 40-show residency at the venue, and there have been a number of other major events that have taken advantage of advertising opportunities presented by the venue's unique structure.
Even if McGregor does not wind up fighting on the card, White will have no shortage of potential stars who will want to participate in the first Sphere UFC event. Don't be surprised if this becomes one of the highest-grossing events in UFC history.
