Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry addressed a report that revealed his team pursued pairing him with LeBron James with a trade ahead of this year's deadline.

"No, never surprised," Curry told reporters when asked if he was shocked to see Golden State making such inquiries. "It's always a surprise when stuff like that gets out because I'm assuming that every team is making calls that if every fanbase or media group would know about it, it would normalize the conversations that happen in the front office, especially around the trade deadline when you're exploring around the league who's available and who's not.

"Obviously, a guy like Bron, you would probably call just to see. I don't know what the depths of the conversations were, but it was a nice little surprise this morning for sure."

James has a player option for next season and could leave during the upcoming offseason, so Golden State was surely interested to see if the Lakers wanted to get ahead of a potential departure.

James, 39, and Curry, 35, are also on the same win-now timeline, and the Warriors would have been quite the threat from the play-in tournament or bottom of the Western Conference playoff picture with two of the greatest players of all time leading the way in a championship push.

The spacing alone would have been almost impossible to deal with given Curry's outside shooting and James' ability to attack the rim off the bounce.

Alas, the King is staying put and both his Lakers and Curry's Warriors will continue to battle for positioning in the Western Conference play-in tournament.
