Personal Statement
I started my athletic journey as a baseball player. I spent many years on school teams and travel teams. In 8th grade, I was moved to JV and had great opportunities to contribute to my team's success. However, during fall and winter of my 8th grade and freshman year, I tried out for cross country and winter track. The cross country coach brought me up to varsity and it was then that I realized how much I loved running! Since joining the running program in Center Moriches, I learned that being part of this unique sport is where I am meant to be. It is the perfect combination of a team sport and an individual sport.
Since then, I am proud to say that I am a three time varsity athlete since freshman year of cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. As of right now I have been top 5 in my county for indoor and outdoor track for the 400, 600, and 800 and I'm looking to run competitively in college. My academic goals for high school are to finish strong and challenge myself whenever I can. But my junior year of spring track I had a very unfortunate and unlucky accident. It could have been just a simple fall and nothing would have happened but I was not at all. I fell during a sprint workout while the middle school track was sharing the track and I was on the inner lane where the middle school team was running. They were supposed to get out of the way when we were running. But they didn’t and I bumped into someone then fell and the impact of the fall caused my spleen to rupture and internally bleed. But I did not know I was slowly bleeding in my body. So I got back up and finished the sprint workout until I could not stand it anymore and had to get rushed into emergency surgery. I am still recovering and I plan to come back stronger then ever before.
