New York Yankees right fielder Juan Soto exited Thursday night's contest against the Minnesota Twins due to left forearm discomfort, the team announced.

After the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Soto has been dealing with soreness for the past week and will undergo imaging on Friday.

"It's just been something that's been bothering him for about the last week or so," Boone said. "He's been getting treatment on it, hasn't really been affecting him in his baseball stuff, throwing or swinging or anything."

Soto said there wasn't an exact moment he could point to that would have caused the injury.

"I actually just woke up one day and felt the tightness and discomfort in my forearm," Soto said. "We've been working on it and we've been trying to get away with it hasn't gone out."

Before he left the game, Soto was walked twice and came around to score a run. Alex Verdugo, who was traded to New York from the Boston Red Sox this offseason, came in for Soto.

Soto's injury comes during the final contest of a three-game series with the Twins. The Yankees won the first two matchups and are on a seven-game win streak.

Soto, who was traded to New York and agreed to a one-year, $31 million deal to avoid arbitration with the Yankees last offseason, has not missed a game this season and played all 162 games last year while with the San Diego Padres. The seventh-year veteran has played 150-plus games in all but two of his major league seasons.

The offseason addition has hit his stride early for New York. He has the fourth-best batting average (.319), fourth-most home runs (17) and third-most RBI (53) in the majors through 63 games this season.

Led by Soto, the Yankees are 44-19, sitting at the top of the AL East and showing no signs of slowing down. New York will face a major test against the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend and will hope to have Soto back on the field before then.

In the meantime, the Yankees will look to Verdugo in right field. The 28-year-old has eight home runs and 34 RBI with a .252 batting average across 218 at-bats so far this season.
